5 Key Phrases You Want to Hear from CDL Truck Driver Recruiters

If you are searching for a CDL truck driving job, listen for these key phrases from the company's recruiter. If they don't say or even mention these topics, you should ask about them.

  1. "Guaranteed home weekly" - If your home time is important, make sure this is made clear up front. Some companies will allow you to get extra hours when needed but you should know that they will guarantee you get home when you need and want to be.

  2. "Ask vs Tell Dispatch" - Forced dispatch can be difficult and frustrating. If a company is willing to listen to your needs and work with you on your schedule, you will be able to have the flexibility that fits your lifestyle.

  3. "Trusted well-established business" - Companies that have been around a long time are typically more trustworthy and financially stable. Look for trucking industries that have solid work year-round hauling a variety of commodities based on the season.

  4. "Flexibility" - Ask if the trucking company can be flexible and work around special circumstances and varying schedules.

  5. "Transparent and Consistent Pay" - Your employer should be able to tell you when you will get paid and give you written documentation of exactly what you are getting paid for. If they are not willing to provide that information, you should keep looking.

Don't hesitate to ask a potential employer if you can talk to other drivers at the company to get their take on the above important points. If they refuse, ask yourself why? This should be a red flag that it might not be the best job for you.
